Yesterday our "Ethiopian Hour" group celebrated Ethiopian New Year, or Enkutatash! It was a festive celebration filled with great food, coffee, music, and dance. The room was filled with so much joy, kinship, and cultural exchange. The holiday is celebrated with yelllow flowers (particularly daisies), traditional food, and special New Year's songs. Ethiopia uses a unique 13-month calendar that is 7-8 years behind the calendar we use, so it's now 2019 in Ethiopia!
A special thanks to Mayor Sumbul Siddiqui for coming and to the North Cambridge Senior Center for hosting us as always. And to all of the participants who cooked, we thank you for sharing your delicious food with us all!
