Health Fair for Ethiopian Seniors!

This morning, CEOC hosted a Health Fair at the Burns Apartments for Ethiopian seniors in our community. Thanks to a mini-grant from the Cambridge Public Health Department’s Healthy Eating and Active Living division, we were able to hire an Amharic-speaking interpreter to help us facilitate the event. Two of CEOC’s Amharic-speaking staff, Yemi Kibret and Sofia Berhe, facilitated the event, which had nearly 30 attendees. With the help of the Cambridge Public Health Department and Cambridge Health Alliance, we were able to provide information on healthy eating/nutrition, maximizing SNAP dollars, physical activity, and oral health, in addition to promoting all of CEOC’s programs. This event builds on “Ethiopian Hour,” CEOC’s Ethiopian senior group that meets every other Tuesday at the North Cambridge Senior Center.
